Wright Shares Pompano Fishing Secrets, Tourney Open To All
The 10th annual Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle Pompano Tournament continues until
May 31, with prizes in multiple categories. For those who are new to Pomp
fishing, Victor Wright, Manager at Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle, shares some
secret tips forcatching the prized pompano.
1) The best bait to use is sandfleas and shrimp
2) Look for a deep hole witha wash out, where the pompanolike to congregate
3) Use a 2 drop pompano rig,with a 2-5 oz. weight, dependingon the roughness of
the surf
4) The best times to fi sh areearly in the morning, and late afternoon,however,
Pompano can be caught any time of day
To enter the tournament,sign up at the GBBT. Entry fee is
$10 plus tax. Pompano tournament flyers,with rules and regulations, will be
provided.
Gulf Breeze Bait & Tackle hassupplied the local area for almost 30 years with
fresh bait, and the latest
in tackle, the store is known as“the fisherman’s candy store.” For the pompano
tournament, GBBTwill have pre-made pompano rigs, sand spikes, pre-made liters,

The 23rd annual Outcast Cobia
Classic, which begins cobia season for many anglers along the northern Gulf
Coast, begins today. Anglers will compete until April 30 to determine the team
with the biggest cobia catch.
The captains meeting will be tonight at Zelico Grotto Hall
located at 1000 South K St. in Pensacola. Anglers can register for the event at
any point in tournament competition. the entry fee is $545. Competitors entering
after tonight, however, must wait 24 hours after signing up to weigh a fish. The
top five places will be awarded as follows; $5000, $4000, $3000, $2000 and
$1500. There will also be prizes for small boats, top boat, largest fish each
day, and tag and release. The boat "Full Pull" won the tournament last year with
a catch weighting 86.20 pounds. In second place was the boat "Reel Addiction" at
80.0 pounds. In third place, "The Defense Rests" weighed a catch of 79.60
pounds. The largest fish caught aboard a small boat was 53.35 pounds on the
"Osprey." Scales for the tournament are located at Outcast Fishing and Hunting
in Pensacola, Harborwalk Marina in Destin, Orange Beach Marina in Orange Beach,
and Half Hitch Tackle in Panama City. For more information you can call Outcast

"Bamboo Vic II" said this year's competitors face a greater challenge. "We
have had a mild winter the last few years and the fish have trickled through,
but with the cold weather this year we should have a good push, it just might be
little late."
For those who prefer to fish at the
peir, Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle will stage its yearly Pier Cobia Tournament.
The top five places will be awarded with the winner receiving a brand new Van
Staal 275. the angler landing the largest cobia on Pensacola Beach Gulf Fishing
Pier will recieve a $100 gift certificate.
The tournament begins when the first
registered angler brings a catch to the store to be weighted. The event ends on
May 9th at 7 p.m.. Eligible piers include Pensacola, Okaloosa, Panama City and
Gulf Shores. Entry fee is only $25 and you may register at any time, including
during the tournament. The only stipulation is that anglers must enter before
catching a fish.

Pompano Tourney Hits Decade Mark
Time To Wet A Line
Gulf Breeze Bait & Tackle is hosting its 10th annual Pompano Tournament through
May 31. The tourney offers $5,500 in prizes, with four separate categories. To
enter the tournament, sign up at the Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle. Entry fee is
$10. Pompano tournament fl yers, with rules and regulations, will be provided at
sign in. The local fi shing experts at GBBT will provide answers to any
questions. Prizes include a $1000 in gift certificates to Gulf Breeze Bait and
Tackle, a $250 gift certifi cate for top Lady Angler, a $200 gift certificate
for top Junior Angler, and the prize in the Pier division is an annual Pass to
the Gulf Fishing Pier
